Frequently Asked Questions

Our sessions will feel conversational and collaborative, sometimes challenging and often comfortable.
In some appointments, we will be processing recent events in your life and the present impacts you’re experiencing. During others, we will be unpacking patterns and identifying subconscious beliefs that may act as barriers to your personal values and goals. There will also be appointments where we are celebrating personal accomplishments or reflecting on a podcast you’ve been listening to or an old Rom-Com you revisited recently.
My role is to hold an open, safe, and empathetic space to explore your self, your beliefs, and your experiences with curiosity and compassion along your therapeutic journey. That means we will continually check in and adapt our approach as your capacity and goals change and there will always be room to discuss any questions or concerns you may be experiencing.
Ultimately, we get to decide what working together looks like in order for you to feel most safe and supported throughout our relationship.

When starting counseling with a new provider, I generally recommend beginning with meeting on a weekly basis in order to support establishing our therapeutic rapport and building momentum toward your therapeutic goals.
Ultimately, the frequency of our sessions will depend on your unique needs and preferences, including financial and scheduling availability.
The frequency of sessions can always be reassessed or adjusted throughout our work together to best support your progress and evolving needs.
The duration of therapy varies depending on the person, their unique circumstances and goals, and their personal preferences. Just as the frequency of appointments can be discussed and shifted throughout your counseling experience, so can the duration of your treatment.
Our overall goal is to ensure you feel comfortable and supported in your counseling schedule and experience throughout.

Finding a counselor that feels like a good fit for you and your personal needs and energy is an important element to your positive progress in therapy.
If, for any reason, you feel like we are not a good fit, I very much encourage you to share your concerns with me so that we can address any issues or concerns that arise together.
If we determine that we’re not the right fit for long-term care, I am happy to provide referrals to other mental health professionals that may be better aligned with your preferences and needs for care.
My biggest goal is to help you find the support and care that feels like the best fit and can support you in your personal goals for your counseling experience.

A superbill is a detailed, itemized receipt provided by your healthcare provider for insurance reimbursement. It lists all services rendered, including diagnostic and treatment codes, enabling patients to seek reimbursement directly from their insurance provider.
Please contact your insurance provider to find out more about your mental health benefits.
Information that will be helpful to gather prior to starting counseling:
What is the coverage percentage for out-of-network psychotherapy services?
Do you have a deductible? If so, how much is it and what percentage will be covered once you’ve met it?
What is the process for submitting claims for reimbursement?
Are there any limitations on the number of sessions or frequency of OON psychotherapy covered?
Are there any restrictions on the types of licensed mental health professionals eligible for OON benefits?

Opting to pay out-of-pocket for mental health treatment can provide many advantages, including enhanced confidentiality, privacy, and flexiblity.
You may choose to self-finance your therapy sessions to prioritize:
Confidentiality: Some individuals may worry about their mental health information being disclosed to their insurance provider or other third parties. Choosing to pay for therapy sessions privately allows you to ensure that your confidentiality is maintained at the strictest level.
Flexibility: Self-financing therapy sessions can offer greater scheduling and treatment length flexibility. Insurance policies can restrict the number of sessions, require pre-approval for treatment, or limit frequency of care that can impede your ability to access the care you require or prefer.
No Diagnosis Required: Insurance providers require a diagnosis to be identified in order to utilize mental health benefits. Paying out-of-pocket for therapy services allows you to access therapeutic care without requiring receipt or disclosure of a diagnosis.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Services Act, healthcare providers must provide individuals who don’t have insurance or who aren’t using insurance a Good Faith Estimate of their bill for medical items and services, including psychotherapy services.
Because most psychotherapy clients receive regular and recurring services, it can be difficult to estimate the total length of treatment required to achieve client goals. As a result, Good Faith Estimates would encompass services provided with a 12-month period and new estimates would be provided for the following 12 months.
A Good Faith Estimate does not account for additional charges outside of scheduled therapy sessions, such as late cancellations or no-show fees, additionally requested sessions, or other financial arrangements determined on a case-by-case basis.
For questions or more information about Good Faith Estimates, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059
